Meet Alexander Holburn’s Business Disputes Team

Judy Rost is a Partner at Alexander Holburn Beaudin + Lang LLP, and is the group leader of their Business Disputes Practice. She has acted for plaintiffs and defendants in all types of business disputes including shareholder, partnership, and franchise matters, just to name a few. Often clients seek her out to enforce their intellectual property rights or to get an injunction to preserve assets. She also has experience handling complex trust and estate matters. Judy has successfully built her practice by being responsive to her clients’ needs and finding creative solutions to resolve their disputes.

David Garner is a Partner at Alexander Holburn Beaudin + Lang LLP, is a member of the Business Disputes Practice, and is active in several litigation related practices at the firm. He recently completed a six and a half year term as the firm’s Managing Partner. While David’s practice is primarily litigation-based, he places considerable emphasis on alternate dispute resolution solutions, including mediation and arbitration approaches. He represents a diverse range of individual, professional and corporate clients in disputes spanning a broad range of issues and business sectors. He has appeared in all levels of courts in British Columbia and Alberta, as well as handled matters in the courts of other Western Canadian provinces. David is an active writer and presenter on a variety of legal topics for clients and for other lawyers through the Continuing Legal Education Society of British Columbia.

Karen Zimmer is a Partner at Alexander Holburn Beaudin + Lang LLP. Her practice is primarily focused on the following areas of civil and commercial litigation: libel and slander claims, directors and officers liability, complex commercial litigation, society litigation matters, professional regulatory matters, privacy and intellectual property disputes.

Hoops Harrison practises in the area of business litigation with a focus on corporate restructuring and insolvency related matters. He also specializes in realization/foreclosure law and operational matters specific to financial institutions. Hoops has advocated at all levels of Court in B.C and Alberta. He has also been appointed as an adjudicator with British Columbia’s Civil Resolution Tribunal – Canada’s first online Tribunal for resolving strata and small claims disputes – as well as British Columbia’s Employment Standards Tribunal.

Derek Frenette’s practice is litigation focused, and includes a wide variety of legal matters which are relevant to small and mid-sized businesses, including labour and employment, shareholder disputes, debt collection, litigation of commercial agreements, and intellectual property matters. Derek has a particular interest in intellectual property law. This aspect of his practice includes trademark prosecution and litigation, including infringement and opposition proceedings.
